The Dangerous Summer – 7/10/2011

The Dangerous Summer put on an awesome set at Warped, and this is AJ soaked in sweat walking off stage. Moments before, he had just finished that sweet screaming end part to Work In Progress that he does that left everyone looking around all stunned at how awesomely consuming and fierce it was.

Adam singing You Know How I Do … I get shivers just writing that. It was really cool to cross this band off my list of artists I’ve always wanted to shoot – especially with the original lineup. This shot was my simply favorite from the show – no other cool back story behind it, sorry.

Underoath – 2/8/2011

First Ave in Minneapolis, MN

Underoath is definitely one of my favorite bands to shoot. There aren’t a lot of bands that get into their show as much as UO does, and I really love trying to capture their energy. Mostly because it’s really difficult to do. Whenever I listen to them I just sense this high intensity and organized chaos. I totally think apocalyptic end of the world stuff. Their show is that feeling times ten. I loved this shot of Spencer because I feel like he’s totally in the moment and I don’t think there’s anything else going through his brain except for the music he’s playing.

My Chemical Romance – 4/12/2011

First Ave in Minneapolis, MN

I was lucky enough to be able to shoot My Chemical Romance two days in a row in Iowa and Minnesota. This was the last shot I took at the Minnesota show. Gerard went crazy during the third song and this was right when it ended. He turned around and just took a second to catch his breath. I think if you need a second to catch your breath after a song, you probably just did a pretty good job.

Circa Survive – 1/20/2011

People’s Court in Des Moines, IA

This year was the first time I’ve been able to see Circa Survive, and I was really excited to finally be able to photograph them as well. Anthony Green is a super exciting frontman and I went in expecting the show to be perfect, and it exceeded my expectations. By a factor of like 10. I like this photo because my favorite moments of that show were when Anthony was screaming his lungs out and his neck got all veiny and he looked like he was going to explode, and this is one of those moments.

All Time Low – 4/21/2011

First Ave in Minneapolis, MN

This is one of those one-in-a-million moments, even though it doesn’t really look like it. If you’re a photographer, you’ll understand what I mean. Jack jumped down on this little platform, crossed his legs, and started playing while making funny faces at fangirls taking photos. Well I got stuck on this back side of him, but I still thought it would make a cool image. Unfortunately the lighting where he was sitting was nonexistant. Like, none at all. I was snapping a few photos and thought to myself how useless it was to keep shooting this same thing, but somehow I ended up catching the flash from someone in the crowd, and, miraculously, at the same exact time, a light from the stage flashed on him while panning across the stage. I probably took about 30 shots of Jack like that, and this is the only one that came out.

Bring Me The Horizon – 3/25/2011

Epic in Minneapolis, MN

This was another balcony shot I got yelled at for (see #3 here shortly…). It was worth it. BMTH was just ending their set, everyone was a sweaty mess, and then Oli just threw up deuces and called it a day.

A Day To Remember – 3/25/2011

Epic in Minneapolis, MN

The Gamechangers Tour was one of my favorites of the year. All the bands on the bill were intense and put on a great show. I’ve seen A Day To Remember a bunch of times, but this was probably their best show I’ve attended. I kept getting yelled at during the band’s sets for taking pictures from the balcony, but I knew this moment was coming, so I sneaked past a security guard that was turned the other way onto the stairs in the middle of the venue and snapped a few frames before that security guard came to move me. But when he turned around and climbed up the stairs to where I was, he saw what I was taking pictures of and yelled in my ear, “Okay… that’s pretty sweet, you can take a few more pictures.”

The Devil Wears Prada – 6/10/2011

Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN

The Devil Wears Prada is always really exciting to shoot. Mike Hranica yells in photographer’s faces like no other, so it always rules. I really liked this photo because this kid beat all odds to grab hands with Mike. I don’t even think Mike saw it coming. He was just pointing and looking intimidating and this skinny white kid somehow crowdsurfed over the barrier, jumped, and juked out a couple security guards resembling linebackers, and grabbed Mike’s hand. I was impressed.

The Wonder Years – 6/10/2011

Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN

The Wonder Years had the second to last set of the day, and by that time everyone was pretty much burnt out from the sun, myself included. I really wanted to shoot these guys and ran from shooting We Came As Romans to try to make it in time to grab a few pictures. I ended up making it into the pit for the last half of their third song, so I was only able to get a few photos. The security guard was rad and let me sit on the barricade near the exit of the pit on his side, and snap photos throughout the rest of the set. Soupy hopped out into the crowd and everyone was yelling at each other, as is the pop-punk way. It was sweet. I still don’t know who this guy is, I’ve been trying to find out since that day, but it’s still a mystery to me.
